Darien Students Make Blankets for Premature Babies

DARIEN, Conn. – Sixth-grade students on the Red and Orange teams at Middlesex Middle School celebrated their team spirit day by making 615 blankets for premature babies. This is the sixth consecutive year the Darien students have participated in the community service.

Dressed in creative outfits showing off their team colors, the students worked together to make the blankets. Earlier in the year, they raised $3,120 to buy the fleece, scissors and cards needed for the project.

They gave the blankets to the Darien-based Tiny Miracles Foundation , which will distribute them to babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of Stamford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital and Danbury Hospital. The blankets are used to cover the babies’ isolettes. They not only provide comfort for the premature babies, but also give hope and support to their families.

In the past six years, Middlesex students have raised more than $28,000 and made more than 2,600 blankets for the Tiny Miracles Foundation.
